BPMN
A business process diagram drawn in accordance with Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) enables relationships between the BPMN’s various process types to be represented. BPMN differentiates between the following process types:
- Private business process (also called an internal process)
- Abstract process (also called a public process)
- Collaboration process (also called a global process)
Private processes are business processes executed within the organization. In order to represent a private process in a business process diagram (BPD), users must first place a pool object in it. The pool object can be connected to an organizational element, an application system type object, a data element or a function. The process can then be modeled within the pool.
BPMN notation defines fixed limits. By contrast, the EPC modeling standard enables a more flexible representation of processes and a wider range of analysis options. In addition, non-technical users can model processes faster with EPC because EPC requires significantly less training than BPMN.
ARIS supports process representation in accordance with BPMN notation using various models, such as the business process diagram and BPMN allocation diagram. The BPMN models are available in ARIS Business Designer and ARIS Business Architect, among others. ARIS offers a variety of ways to analyze BPMN processes and identify both quantitative and qualitative improvement options.
